Part 7 of Last Days of the Third Era

CYRICUS MAURUS EXPECTS THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SUCCESSION ORDER ON MORNDAS

The Imperial City – The Vice Chancellor of the Elder Council, His Eminence Cyricus Maurus, said he expects that the Council will finalize and announce the Order of Succession during the Council session on Morndas, Hearth Fire 5. “The agendum of the Morndas session includes voting on the temporary financing of the Imperial Government, but the final discussion and endorsement of the Order of Succession are the main items,” Maurus said. “The public is aware that the recent tragic events have affected the established Order of Succession in a serious and disruptive manner, and we expect that all the political entities represented in the Council will display proper patience and understanding due to the general situation. It is in the best interest of the Empire that the succession is effected as quickly as possible.”

TEMPLE OF TALOS WILL NOT SUPPORT THE SUCCESSION CANDIDATES OF THE ELDER COUNCIL

Bruma – The High Priest of Talos, His Eminence Cirroc of Whiterun stated for the Bruma Oracle that the Temple of Talos cannot support an Emperor selected by the Elder Council or through any other “mundane means”. “It is a completely natural attitude for us to take,” the High Priest said, “for the Cult of Talos has been the principal guardian of records and documents pertaining to the Septim bloodline throughout the Third Era, and we are the only authority to decide if a candidate has a legitimate claim as a descendent. And we are all gravely aware that there are no such candidates left amongst the nobility of the Empire under the Succession Proclamation of 309.” [Emphasis by the Bruma Oracle.] “The Cult will instead suggest that a temporary government is established until either the crowning of an Emperor from a distant branch of the Bloodline is legalized by the new legislature, or a candidate who qualifies according to mythological criteria appears, as was the case with Emperor Reman.” His eminence did not detail what the mythological criteria might be nor who would be authorized to judge on their presence or absence in the future candidates for the Throne.

ANTABOLIS: POSSIBLE ELIMINATION OF THE PARALLEL POWER STRUCTURES

The Imperial City – Crowning of a new Emperor doesn’t mean that the political situation in the weakening Empire will normalize, Haspat Antabolis, the Master of the Fighter’s Guild and an esteemed historian, estimates in a statement for the Black Horse Currier. He also warns that the normalization of other circumstances, especially those that have lead to the current state of affairs, is not to be expected in the near future. However, Antabolis also believes that the parallel power structures that undoubtedly exist in the Empire may be eliminated in the ongoing military purge.

“Regarding the political crisis, I think there is no doubt that the recent decisions of the Elder Council not only fail to address it, but actually deepen it,” says Antabolis. “It is my opinion that even a long-term representative government with the Elder Council acting as regent would be a solution preferable to acting hastily and crowning a weak Emperor. What the Council is trying to do now is to conserve the situation which had been extremely tenuous even before the tragedy – they are buying time, trying to bridge this problematic period and get into more stable political positions before facing the underlying issues.”

THE IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT NEEDS TIME TO CONSOLIDATE

Fort Virtue – General Maximus Plivius, who recently returned from Windhelm, stated yesterday that Morrowind should show more understanding for the situation in the Imperial Province after the assassination of the Emperor and allow the Imperial Government to consolidate before the efforts to initialize dialog between Windhelm and Blacklight counties continue.

General Maximus met with the Count of Windhelm and the local government, as well as with the representatives of the guilds and other independent organizations from the area, and visited the refugee camp on Mount Warhoul.
